Cross Country

Andrew Rickert, Boys' Team Coach

Andrew Rickert is a USATF level II certified coach entering his fifth season as the Boys' Head XC coach. Coach Rickert previously spent 14 years coaching track and cross country at The College of Saint Rose where he led two women’s teams to the NCAA Division II Cross Country championships. He was named the 2010 USTFCCCA East Region Division II Coach of the Year. He also helped guide multiple conference champions in events ranging from the 800m to 10,000m. A former stand-out for rival Guilderland, Coach Rickert teaches English at BCHS and is a member of the Lab School program. Coach Rickert competed for four years at UAlbany and continues to train and compete as a master’s runner with the Wild Rovers racing team. In the winter, Coach Rickert assists the indoor track team’s distance group. A lover of Dave Matthews Band and the NY Mets, he and his wife live in Slingerlands with their three young sons.

Tucker Chrapowitzky, Girls' Team Coach

Tucker Chrapowitzky is entering his third season coaching the Girls XC team.  “Coach C” previously coached track and cross country at Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk High School where he teaches high school math. A USATF level I certified coach, Tucker has also worked as a volunteer coach with the Delmar Track & Field club. Coach Chrapowitzky also coaches the girls distance group during the outdoor track and field season. Coach C grew up in Chatham, NY and attended Clarkson University (where he played soccer) and later UAlbany where he graduated. He and his wife have two daughters and live in Slingerlands. A passionate nordic skier in the winter months, Tucker also competes in local road races for the Wild Rovers Racing team. 

Chris Buchanan, Boys' Assistant Team Coach

Chris Buchanan brings with him a winning pedigree to the Boys' XC staff. Coach Buchanan is a former individual state XC champion at Cicero-North Syracuse and won an America East conference title while at UAlbany. In his freshman year, the Great Danes men’s XC team won the first America East championship in school history. Chris currently teaches math at Stephen & Harriet Myers MS in the Albany schools where he is the modified boys' lacrosse coach. A passionate snowboarder in the winter, Buchanan helps supervise the Albany HS ski club. A lover of Corvettes and home improvement, Coach Buchanan spends his free time renovating his Cohoes home.

John and Kari Deer, Modified Track Coaches

John and Kari Deer live in Slingerlands with their two children who also run for the Bethlehem Eagles. For the past five years, they have been the Delmar Track and Field Club head coaches for both the Fall Cross Country and Spring Track seasons. John has coached both Cross Country and Track and Field at the Varsity level at Albany High School where he teaches. Kari has coached Cross Country at the Modified level at Columbia High School. She teaches second grade in the East Greenbush Central School District. They are both on the USATF Adirondack Board and are active in the planning of youth and adult races and events in the region. John runs competitively for the Wild Rovers Racing Team and Kari races for the Willow Street Athletic Club, which are both elite racing teams in the Capital Region. You can spot us running around the town we love doing what we love most!

Michelle Lavigne, Modified Track Assistant Coach

Michelle began her running career in eighth grade to get in shape for soccer. Unbeknownst to her, she had a talent in middle/long distance running. After her first outdoor season, her high school coach encouraged her to continue to run indoor and outdoor track which she did for all four years of high school. Michelle continued her running career at the University of Notre Dame where she was a member of the varsity cross country/ track teams and Monogram Club. Michelle continues running at the local level and has developed a love for marathon running. She credits her high school track coach for instilling in her a lifetime love of running.
